OS security in smart phones

The growing popularity of smart phones makes it important that we have accurate understanding of security in their various OSes. We expect that Anroid and iPhone OS (IOS) will be dominant in a market. Hence, their vulnerabilities are a direct consequence of our security. Among many security issues, we mainly concentrate on privacy issues at this moment.

Internet traffic monitoring

Heterogeneous traffic is flowing in the Internet. A number of applications and systems are developed without exact understanding of traffic characteristics. As a result engineers experience a distance between the final product and the early design. We attempt to develop a model for such applications as WWW, P2P and game. This model should help engineers to understand the Internet more accurate.

wireless network security

Wireless networks becomes a part of our life and their security has many meanings. The most popular form comes in WLAN and its security problems have been known critical. In an effort to improve this security problem 802.11i has been proposed. We see new two networks, VANET and healthcare networks, will draw great attention to our community. We are trying to define security problems in these networks before these networks are deployed.

3G and 4G networks

The main goal in the 3G and 4G networks is to allow user to access service anywhere and anytime. In doing so interconnections between service providers and between different protocols are essential. One issue in the interconnection is to validate user's legitimacy. 3GPP and 3GPP2 propose different standards for the authentication. We try to suggest a solution in the 3G and 4G networks for the aim of seamless interconnection. In addition, mobile IP (version 4 and version 6) supports the 3G and 4G networks for the network protocol and the handover protocol. Not only that VPN is an essential tool for a roaming user to access to his home network. Here, the authentication is a big issue to guarantee the high qualify of service. Our research aims to provide such an authentication protocol suitable for 3G and 4G networks.

network security

An early detection of the abnormal traffic is a difficult problem. Since the abnormal traffic is by nature not known in priori high accuracy in the detection is hard to attain. The detection time is the trade-off with the complexity of the algorithm. We develop an algorithm for the abnormal traffic detection; that is easy to implement, accurate enough to detect unknown attacks and early to identify the nature of the attack.
